The Lame Duck

The Location

The Lame Duck is a time machine to the 70’s. Located on Gertrude Street, behind a reflective golden door, sits this brilliant time capsule venue that captures the spirit of the decade that gave us jumpsuits, Dark Side Of The Moon, Microsoft & more!

Element Audio has a long-standing relationship with owners & creative masters Sam & Tish. We’ve previously worked with this star duo on projects such as Roxanne Parlour, Future Music events & various music festivals and events across Victoria.

The Challenge

A major concern when designing The Lame Duck’s audio infrastructure was that our team needed to provide comprehensive sound, on a tight budget, that aesthetically discrete and did not dominate the space. It was important to provide options that would allow the theme of the venue to remain paramount.

The intricacies of the decor resulted in our team needing to devise a design that was non-offensive, but could still pack a punch during the busy trading hours.

The Solution

Element Audio’s design solution achieved exactly what the clients were looking for! Our selection of hardware was able to meet the aesthetic demands of the client, without sacrificing any audio capabilities.

Utilizing the Australian owned Quest Engineering range of products, our team was able to achieve everything we were tasked to handle.

Two HPI110 Loudspeakers take care of the grunt work - providing ample coverage of the dance floor space for when the venue is shaking and moving. Behind the custom built DJ booth, a HPI8 functions as the DJ Booth Monitor.

A pair of discrete Quest HPI112S Sub Woofers provide the low-end for the DJ system.

Strategically placed throughout the venue are the HPI5 Loudspeakers, providing substantial and clear sound to every corner of the booths & pool table area.

Continuing the trend of using Australian products on this job, Audio Logistics provided amazing AUDAC amplifiers with integrated DSP to power the Quest family of products.

Since commissioning the system in late 2018, there have been no instanced of reported faults, problems or issues of any kind at The Lame Duck. This is a testament to the quality of installation that our team provided, along with the reliability of the products within the Quest Engineering & AUDAC families.
